Abstract
Chinese electrolyser manufacturer Guofu Hydrogen Energy Equipment (also known as Guofu HEE or Guofuhee) has signed a framework agreement with a large state-owned mining company to jointly build a green hydrogen project in Inner Mongolia, China.
Guofu will provide the electrolysers while China Coal Green Energy, a subsidiary of China National Coal Group, will provide the green electricity by building wind and solar farms onsite.
As the project is still in the early stages, the electrolyser, wind and solar capacity are still unclear, but both parties agreed on an annual sales target of 20,000 tonnes of green H2, which suggests about 150MW to 200MW of electrolyser capacity.
Construction for the production plant will be conducted in phases in the city of Ulanqab, Inner Mongolia, with the first phase producing no less than 10,000 tonnes of renewable H2.
Both parties will also work together to coordinate the purchase and sales of the green molecules.
A hydrogen liquefaction plant will also be installed onsite to reduce H2 transportation costs and could be linked to Guofu’s nearby 300MW green H2 project, where it is planning to establish a national liquid H2 transportation and distribution centre.
That 300MW project, just to the north of Ulanqab, was announced two months ago, when Guofu entered into a contract with the government of the Siziwang Banner, Inner Mongolia, to build the 40,000-tonnes-a-year facility.
